Your practice can use Required Data defaults to make certain fields required on client or patient records. This means that staff members will not be allowed to save the record without providing information in the required fields.

Setup

Important!

  • If using the Controlled Substance Export template Cornerstone ASAP 4.2, select the Client Birthdate (YYYYMMDD) and Client Gender prompts as required.

Set up required data defaults

Navigate to Controls > Defaults > Practice and Workstation > Required Data.

Select (highlight) required data for the following field types, scrolling as needed to view the complete list:

  • Client data
  • Client prompts
  • Account data
  • Patient data
  • Patient prompts
  • Click Apply to save your changes and continue setting defaults or click OK to save your changes and close the window.

Note: It is recommended to be selective when setting required data. Too many required data fields can cause users to enter anything in a required field in order to save a record. This will lead to inaccurate client or patient information.

Additional Information

Required data
  • If using the Email Address field as required data, selecting Email declined will fulfill the required data field entry.
  • If a field was marked as required after the record was created, the next time the client or patient is updated, it will be required to enter information into that field.
Example: A client is created. After the client is created the field Referred by is made required in the defaults. The next time that client is updated, Cornerstone will ask for the Referred by information. You will not be able to save the record without entering information in the Referred by field.
  • The following fields are required by Cornerstone and cannot be deselected:
    • Client name
    • Credit code
    • Patient name
    • Sex
    • Species
