Patient sex

Learn how to setup and use Patient Sex to identify and classify patients. Sexes also are used for smart group settings, sex modification special action during invoicing and lab setup.

Before you start

  • Set security
    • Sex
    • Sex setup

Important!

  • A sex cannot be deleted if it is linked to a patient. See Delete a patient sex for more information.

Set up patient sex

Navigate to Controls > Sex.

Review the patient sexes already set up in the Patient Sex list. Verify intact sexes have a corresponding modified sex assigned. This is used with the sex modification special action.

Add a patient sex

  1. Click New.
  2. Type a Description.
  3. If this sex changes when certain surgeries are performed, select the appropriate Modified Sex.
  4. Select Male or Female.
  5. Click OK.

Update a patient sex

  1. Click Update.
  2. Type a Description.
  3. If this sex changes when certain surgeries are performed, select the appropriate Modified Sex.
  4. Select Male or Female.
  5. Click OK.

Delete a patient sex

  1. Click Delete. Click Yes or No to confirm.
  2. If the sex is linked to a patient, a message displays. Click OK.
    • Run the Patient by Name report using the Patient Sex range filter to locate patients with a particular sex.
    • Update the sex on the patient, as needed, to enable deletion of the sex.

Additional Information

Modified sex

If a modified sex is not selected for a sex that needs one, you will be prompted to select one at the time of the sex modification special action. It is recommended to set it up ahead of time to avoid interrupting your workflow.
