Patient Hospital Statuses
Use patient hospital statuses to quickly view the status of a patient from the following windows:
- Patient Clipboard
- Daily Planner Checked-In and Patient Visit List tabs
- Census List Patients in Hospital view
- Electronic Whiteboard windows
Before you start
- Security access
- Patient Hospital Status Information
- Patient Hospital Status List
Important!
- Statuses cannot be inactivated or deleted once used.
Set up a status
Navigate to Lists > Patient Hospital Status.

- Click New.
- Enter a description. Note: No more than 20 alphanumeric characters/spaces is recommended to avoid truncation, although longer descriptions can be entered.
- Click OK.
Set the order of the Status list:
- Click Order.
- Select a status and use onscreen arrow buttons to move to a different position on the list.
- Repeat as needed for each status.
- Click OK.
Once set up, status is entered/updated as needed on either the Check-in/Out or Patient Orders windows.
Update a status
Navigate to Lists > Patient Hospital Status.
- Select a status and click Update.
- Modify the description. Note: No more than 20 alphanumeric characters/spaces is recommended to avoid truncation, although longer descriptions can be entered.
- Click OK.
Delete and unused status
Navigate to Lists > Patient Hospital Status.
- Select a status and click Delete.
- Click Yes or No on the confirmation message.
- If the status has been used, click OK on the alert, and update the description to avoid further use or redefine its use.
- Example: Do not use checked in
Additional information
Patient hospital statuses
- A custom status is considered equal to the ready-to-go-home status if it contains one of the following keywords: ready, home, pick, release, or discharge.
- Ready to go home status settings for patient invoicing are available under Whiteboard defaults. The settings apply to patients added to the Whiteboard only.
- Use of the Electronic Whiteboard is not required to use patient hospital statuses. Access and update status from the Check-In/Out window and still take advantage of status display in other areas.
Example: Patient Clipboard, Daily Planner tabs - Status descriptions more than 20 character/spaces long can display truncated in certain windows and drop downs.
- The following status options are included with Cornerstone and cannot be updated or deleted:
- Inpatient
- Ready to go home
- Discharged
