Order additional tests: Add on

After reviewing test results, you may want to request additional tests using the samples already at the IDEXX laboratory or run additional tests in-clinic. Adding to an existing order this way ensures that the reference laboratory will run the test and that the fee is captured for added tests. It also reduces the likelihood of getting Not Requested or Orphan results.

Before you start

  • Set security
    • Lab Change Pending Requests
    • Lab Requests and Results

Important!

  • Using add-on test workflow captures charges and avoids not requested lab results.

Add on IDEXX In-clinic Lab

Navigate to Patient Clipboard > Right click patient > Lab > Add-on to Lab Request.

  1. Double-click the requisition row or highlight the row and click Select. The Add on to Lab Request window opens.
  2. In the Profiles/tests area, enter the invoice item ID, or double-click in the Item ID field to search for INCLINIC tests and profiles.
  3. In the Profile/test item List, do any of these to locate a test:
    • Include: clear Favorites list to make sure you can view all associated tests and profiles.
    • Search by: select Profile/test, Invoice item ID or Item description.
    • Click Profile/test Name, Type, or Item ID column headers to sort displayed profiles accordingly.
  4. Highlight (click) the test from the list and click Select (or double click test) to add it to the request.
  5. Repeat as needed until all tests needed display in the Add on to a Lab Request window.
  6. Click OK.
  7. If the Print Lab Request window appears, do one of the following:
    • Click Print to print specified forms and labels and finish placing the request.
    • Click Preview to review and then print specified forms and labels.
    • Click Close to finish placing the request without printing.
  8. Click Close to exit the Add on Lab Request window.

Add on IDEXX Reference Lab

Navigate to Patient Clipboard > Right click patient > Lab > Add-on to Lab Request.

  1. Double-click the requisition row or highlight the row and click Select.
  2. The diagnostic order window opens and displays the originally requested items. Add tests by any of the following:
    • Select from Frequent or Saved test lists (tabs).
    • Search for tests from the Browse All tab.
    • Click the Add-Ons Available link. Available add-on tests are based on tests already selected in the order window.
  3. Click Specimen Details for profiles containing a urinalysis, cytology, or a biopsy. Enter the required information and click Done.
  4. Click Notes to enter additional information, reference previous tests or to mark this as an urgent request, and then click Done.
  5. Remove a test from the order by hovering over it and then click . Note: If the test has already been processed at the lab, you will be charged for it.
  6. Click Update to complete changes.
  7. In the Lab Request Print box, select the appropriate options and click Print. Be sure to include the updated lab form with your reference lab samples.
  8. Click Close to exit the Add on Lab Request window.

Additional information

Adding to a request will use the original request date for the PVL charge entry date. To add tests to a pending request, see Managing pending requests.
