Managing lab requests

Learn how to manage lab requests from the Lab Requests and Results window including adding/removing tests for a pending request, reprinting lab forms/labels and deleting a pending request.

Before you start

Important!

  • If any part of a reference or in-clinic request has been completed, it can no longer be updated. You can add to the order using the add-on test workflow to capture charges and avoid not requested lab results.

Managing In-house lab requests

Update a pending request: In-house

Update a pending request whenever you need to add or remove tests in the test order. Updating a request this way ensures that the order is placed and will display in (or be removed from) the pending list on the IDEXX VetLab Station. It also ensures the fee is captured for added tests. Use either of the below workflows to update a pending request.

Navigate to Toolbar > Lab Requests and Results > select a pending request > Update.

  1. The Change Pending Request window opens.
  2. Make your changes: Add new tests or remove pending tests by pressing Ctrl D. Click OK.
  3. In the Lab Request Print box, select the appropriate options to print the form.
  4. Any changes made to the pending request will update the IDEXX VetLab Station pending list.

Navigate to Patient Clipboard > Right click patient > Lab > Add-on to Lab Request.

  1. Double-click the requisition row or highlight the row and click Select.
  2. The Add on to Lab Request window opens.
  3. Make your changes: Add new tests or remove pending tests by pressing Ctrl D. Click OK.
  4. In the Lab Request Print box, select the appropriate options to print the form.
  5. Select another order, change to a different patient, or close the window.
  6. Any changes made to the pending request will update the IDEXX VetLab Station pending list.

Reprinting Pending Request Labels for IDEXX In-house Laboratory

Navigate to Toolbar > Lab Requests and Results > select a pending request > Update.

  1. The Change Pending Request window opens.
  2. Click OK.
  3. In the Lab Request Print box, select the appropriate option and the number of copies. Click Print.

Delete a Pending Request for IDEXX In-house Laboratory

You can delete a pending request if the request was created in error or is no longer needed.

Navigate to Toolbar > Lab Requests and Results > right click a pending request > Delete. Click Yes or No on the confirmation message.

The request is removed from the IDEXX VetLab Station pending list.

Managing reference lab requests

Update a pending request: IDEXX reference labs

Update a pending test request if you need to add tests to the order. Updating a request this way ensures that the order is placed and that the fee is captured for added tests. It also reduces the likelihood of getting Not Requested results. Use either of the below workflows to update a pending request.

Navigate to Toolbar > Lab Requests and Results > select a pending request > Update.

  1. The diagnostic order window opens and displays the originally requested items. Add tests by any of the following:
    • Select from Frequent or Saved test lists (tabs).
    • Search for tests from the Browse All tab.
    • Click the Add-Ons Available link. Available add-on tests are based on tests already selected in the order window.
  2. Click Specimen Details for profiles containing a urinalysis, cytology, or a biopsy. Enter the required information and click Done.
  3. Click Notes to enter additional information, reference previous tests or to mark this as an urgent request, and then click Done.
  4. Remove a newly added test from the order by hovering over it and then click . Note: If the test has already been processed at the lab, you will be charged for it.
  5. Click Update to complete your changes.
  6. In the Lab Request Print box, select the appropriate options and click Print. Be sure to include the updated lab form with your reference lab samples.
  7. Your changes will immediately update the charges on the Patient Visit List.

Navigate to Patient Clipboard > Right click patient > Lab > Add-on to Lab Request.

Reprint a Pending Request Form or Labels for IDEXX Reference Laboratories

Navigate to Toolbar > Lab Requests and Results > select a pending request > Reprint Request.

In the Lab Request Print window, select the appropriate options and the number of copies, and then click Print.

Delete a Pending Request IDEXX Reference Laboratory

You can delete a pending request if the request was created in error or is no longer needed.

Navigate to Toolbar > Lab Requests and Results > right click a pending request > Delete. Click Yes or No on the confirmation message.

If you have already sent samples to the laboratory, call the laboratory to cancel the request.
