Set up your scanner settings, capture sources, and imaging keyword settings. Learn how to set a special action for an imaging request.

Radiology/imaging invoice items must be set up as service type items to use the image request special action.

Set up imaging and scanning defaults

Select your scanner, image export, image view settings and set up any capture sources.

Navigate to Controls > Defaults > Settings.

  1. Select Scanning, in the left side of the window.
  2. Select your scanner in the TWAIN Source.
    Note: The scanner should be connected directly to the workstation where it will be used.
    • Horizontal Resolution and Vertical Resolution: Adjust the resolution values in dots per inch (dpi).
    • Pixel type: Select black-and-white, grayscale, or color.
  3. In the Image Viewer area, select the default ruler unit for the Image Viewer ruler from Ruler Units.
  4. In the Image Export area, do the following:
    • Apply Window/Level to Exported Images: Select if images look considerably different after being sent or saved with DICOM. This changes how contrast and brightness values are saved in DICOM files.
    • Apply Overlays to Exported images: Select if you want images to contain the overlay information displayed in the Image Viewer. When you begin a print, send, or save action the Apply Overlay option will be selected. It can be deselected if needed.
    • Apply Annotations to Exported images: Select if you want the images to contain the annotations created in the Image Viewer. When you begin a print, send, or save action the Apply Annotations option will be selected. It can be deselected if needed.
  5. To add a capture device, click Add Capture Source. A blank line is added to the list.
    • In the Description field, type a description of the device. The device is included on the Capture Sources list.
    • To delete a capture source, click on the source description and click Remove Capture Source.
  6. Click Save to save and close the Imaging Configuration window, or click Apply to save without closing the window.

Keywords

Keywords (ears, hematology, etc.) display in a list box on the Image Details dialog box, allowing you to choose keyword(s) to associate with the image. You can use keywords to search for images with the Advanced Search tab on the Image Explorer window.

A number of keywords have been preloaded on your system. You can add, delete, or edit keywords.

Add a keyword

Navigate to Controls > Defaults > System Settings.

  1. Select Keywords on the left side of the window.
  2. Click Add to add a new row to the Keywords table.
  3. Type the name of the keyword, up to 30 characters.
  4. Repeat this process to add other keywords.
  5. Click Save to save and close the Imaging Configuration window, or click Apply to save without closing the window.


Edit a keyword

  1. Click on a keyword to highlight it, and click Update.
  2. In the Description field, type changes to the keyword.
  3. Click Save to save and close the Imaging Configuration window, or click Apply to save without closing the window.


Delete a keyword


Click on a keyword to highlight it, and click Delete.

Note: Once a keyword is associated with an image, it cannot be deleted.

Set up image request special actions

Image requests let you request digital images electronically with IDEXX-PACS or IDEXX Web PACS, to instantly capture requests and charges in patient records and on invoices.

Imaging invoice items can be set with special actions to create a request when the item is placed on the Patient Visit List or an invoice. Follow these steps to use the image reques special actions with your imaging items.

  1. Set the default to use special actions with image requests.
  2. Set up radiology invoice items with the image request special action.
    • The exam description can be left blank and filled out at the time of the request.
    • If a default description is entered, it can be changed at the time of the request.
