Cornerstone database rebuilds
A database rebuild may be performed as part of routine maintenance or to address specific issues within the Cornerstone database. Rebuilds are also commonly undertaken during version upgrades, although they are not always required, depending on the version and the outcome of the upgrade process.

Cornerstone database rebuilds should be completed by Cornerstone support only.
When is a rebuild necessary?
- Out of memory errors
- Saving space for local backups
- Troubleshooting data issues
- Data maintenance
- Reducing cstone.log file size if larger than your cstone.db. These files are in the Cstone folder on your Cornerstone Database Server.
- Upgrades from Cornerstone 8.3 and below
Rebuild preparation
Database rebuilds are not a scheduled service, but when you have downtime feel free to call Cornerstone Software support to begin the process. Reviewing the rebuild preparation section may speed up the process.
- The process can be run on a workstation, but the Cornerstone Database Server is recommended.
- All computers on the network need to exit all Cornerstone applications and remain so until the rebuild is complete.
- This process can take several minutes to several hours depending on your database size and system specifications. It is not recommended to interrupt the process once it starts.
- We require enough hard drive space that can hold 3 times the size of your Cornerstone database and associated log file.
- Cstone.db and cstone.log files are in the Cstone folder on your Cornerstone Database Server. You can review these files to determine if your computer has enough space to complete the process.
- Internet capability or remote connectivity is necessary on your Cornerstone Database Server.
- All IDEXX Services on your Cornerstone Database Server need to be stopped before the rebuild can start. Services may include:
