Controlled substance reasons

Set up a list of reasons for the use of a controlled substance.

Before you start

  • Controlled Substance Reason information 
  • Controlled Substance Reason List 


  • Inventory Items must be marked as a controlled substance.
  • Use controlled substance reasons must be selected in Invoice defaults.
  • Some states require practices to document the reason a controlled substance was used or dispensed.

Setup controlled substance reasons

Navigate to Controls > Controlled Substance > Controlled Substance Reasons.

Add a controlled substance reason

  1. Click New.
  2. Enter the description of the reason a controlled substance would be used.
  3. Click OK.

Update a controlled substance reason

  1. Click Update.
  2. Change status to Inactive, if needed.
  3. Click OK.

Delete a controlled substance reason

  1. Click Delete.
  2. Click Yes or No to confirm.
