Controlled substance reasons
Set up a list of reasons for the use of a controlled substance.
Before you start
Security
- Controlled Substance Reason information
- Controlled Substance Reason List
Setup
- Invoice defaults
- Inventory items marked as a controlled substance
Important!
- Inventory Items must be marked as a controlled substance.
- Use controlled substance reasons must be selected in Invoice defaults.
- Some states require practices to document the reason a controlled substance was used or dispensed.
Setup controlled substance reasons
Navigate to Controls > Controlled Substance > Controlled Substance Reasons.

Add a controlled substance reason
- Click New.
- Enter the description of the reason a controlled substance would be used.
- Click OK.
Update a controlled substance reason
- Click Update.
- Change status to Inactive, if needed.
- Click OK.
Delete a controlled substance reason
- Click Delete.
- Click Yes or No to confirm.
Additional information
General
- The controlled substance reason list pops up during invoicing and forces the user to select a reason before they can proceed with other invoicing steps.
- Some common reasons are preloaded with your software.
